Developing our Faith

As a congregation we value the exposition of the Word as much as the Eucharist and enjoy a good sermon. Until recently we held monthly sessions after the Sunday service, led either by members of the clergy or the congregation on a wide variety of usually theological subjects. The past year has seen our three covenanted churches exploring possibilities for joint Adult Christian education and the working group has organised three main opportunities for the coming year: Contextual Bible study, two to three joint lectures and interfaith visits.

Magazine CoverWe have a quarterly magazine, ‘Movement’, which is an opportunity for members to share many aspects of our church life and is a vehicle for providing interesting theological articles.

The Social Responsibility group holds three to four sessions a year, also after the Sunday service with speakers, both from within and outwith the congregation.

Praying for Change meetings, the Thursday Morning Eucharist and the Wednesday Morning Study Group are further opportunities for enriching understanding and faith.

A number of the congregation are active within the Cursillo movement.

Advent Children ProcessionThe Children’s Ministry Working Group meets regularly to focus on the needs of the children in the church. Our volunteer coordinators have developed very rich and varied programmes working on the children’s involvement within the whole church, their education, worship and music. Since last Autumn our Sunday Eucharist service has begun with a children’s address led by a member of the clergy team, usually focusing on the Gospel reading for the day, before the young ones leave for their own activities.

Some of the highlights of their programme are: Godly Play, making striking posters, Las Posadas and visits. While less frequent during the past year, we have previously had regular All Age Services. Currently there are about thirteen regular members between the ages of 3 – 11 with three more occasional visitors. We have three crèche aged children who join with the others at present.
